On December 3, 2013 from 6-8pm at the State University of New York at New Paltz, MHVDM will be holding a Small-Biz Online Marketing Seminar on Maximizing Your Budget!
In collaboration with SUNY New Paltz student organizations, AMA and Enactus, MHVDM is presenting a seminar on how to make the most of your digital marketing budget. The seminar will feature three Hudson Valley digital marketing experts who represent national and international clients. Each speaker will address a particular digital marketing aspect that small businesses should understand as they increase their presence online:

For nearly all businesses, digital marketing is mission-critical…or should be. Business people need to stay abreast of the latest developments so that they can find competitive advantages. Students make themselves much more employable when they have a strong knowledge of digital marketing strategy and tactics. This event will be an excellent opportunity to further those objectives. While the speakers will impart their knowledge, attendees will also network, exchange ideas and business opportunities and provide career advice to attending students.
The Mid-Hudson Valley’s marketing community is strong and connected, as we saw from the last MHVDM event in June. This event will be your chance to see how much is being done right here while still so close to New York City. The level of talent, experience, skill and passion for digital marketing is surprising to a lot of people. Meeting up with this dynamic group is an opportunity you should not pass up!
Taking what you study or studied in college and turning it into a career in digital marketing can be a significant transition. Business owners also often feel the growing pains of taking on these forms of marketing; however, anyone is capable of becoming savvy in this field as long as time is taken to learn it and stay on top of it.
Event panelist Raleigh Green studied Cultural Anthropology in college, which involves the study of symbols. Raleigh is now creating those symbols for his clients. Pretty cool, right? “I have a career that started me off in corporate identity in New York City,” says Raleigh Green. He explains how he started off in traditional media forms and participated in the transition to digital media and communications through the internet. He started his company, Corporate Voice, in the late 90’s to focus on building brands online for clients.
Jason White had a much less smooth transition. He studied Physical Education in college, jokingly saying that he thought “dodge ball would be a really great career.” Jason got into digital marketing when he was working at a bike shop in Boston. In the off season, he started experimenting with selling bikes online. “I realized that you can push some buttons and make some cool stuff happen,” says Jason. One thing led to another and now he is a Senior SEO Strategist at DragonSearch.
Similarly, after studying philosophy as an undergrad, Aaron Mandelbaum says he fell into digital marketing, explaining that he didn’t know it was a job to have. He started off at a social media agency “optimizing Myspace pages for celebrities,” among other things. He found he loved the digital marketing field and ran with it.
