Bringing the power of Twitter to the Ulster County area for the first time, the Hudson Valley #140 Character Conference will be exploring the impact and empowerment of social media in the everyday lives of the rural cities of our area.
Kingston, NY- For the first time, a major social media networking conference will be coming to the Hudson Valley. The first 140 Character Conference HV, http://hv.140conf.com/, will be held in Kingston, New York on Tuesday August 23rd 2011 from 8:30am to 5:00pm at the Seven21 Media Center as part of the #140conf LOCAL series. The international #140Conf events provide a platform for the worldwide Twitter community to listen, connect, share and engage with each other, while collectively exploring the effects of the emerging real-time internet on business and life.
As the reach and importance of social media tools such as Twitter grew, Jeff Pulver established himself as a one man Twitter ambassador and launched the first #140 Character Conference in 2009. 140Confs, as they are affectionately called, are modeled after Twitters use of 140 character messages. The Twitter, and now overall social media, conference features speakers, both established and local grassroots “characters”, sharing their experiences using social media. The schedule for the events are unique and fast-paced as it was Jeff Pulver’s intention to provide a platform for as many people as possible to share their thoughts and engage in conversation with the attending delegates. Since their launch, #140Confs have been held around the world in such locations such as NYC, LA, Vancouver, Austin, London and Tel Aviv and have spawn a host of smaller networking events nationwide.
As one past conference attendee states:
“The #140conf expanded my understanding not only of how Twitter (the “real time Internet”) has permanently changed the landscapes of media, communication, and marketing, but also, of what the amazing possibilities are for me and my clients. Anyone who wants to be on top of their game, regardless of industry or area of interest, must have a comprehensive understanding of what this medium offers. The #140conf is the only event that offers attendees the platform and program to fully understand, and master, this communication revolution.”
The conference is sponsored in part and organized by DragonSearch, a online marketing company based in uptown Kingston. The marketing firm, specializing in search engine optimization, PPC advertising and social media marketing with both local and international clients, has long been a supporter of Twitter and attended many other 140 Confs. Local Ulster County publisher, Chronogram, is also a contributing sponsor of the social media event. Seven21 Media Center will provide a tech friendly event location with their capabilities for hosting Live television shows, theater, music performances, film festivals, media industry workshops, & networking events. The Social Media Conference will be live streamed for anyone not able to attend.
Tickets are available to “140 Characters” interested in exploring their passions through Twitter and other Social Media channels. Early Bird Registration is open through July 29 and admits each character to the full day conference including all speakers, access to the networking area and catered meals for $60.00 After July 29th, the registration pricing goes up to $79.00 per conference attendee. Conference organizers are seeking speaking proposals from people who are passionate about social media and its role enriching life overall. The conference itself is driven by passion and ideas and there are very few topics that don’t touch on the way social media is changing things today. Non “professional” speakers are also encourage to attend and submit speaking proposals. Open for discussion are all platforms and applications which are effecting and contributing to the real-time internet experience. Social Media Speakers are invited to submit proposals by July 15, for a slot in the fast-paced speaking schedule.
Past speakers at 140Confs have included newscaster Ann Curry, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, California’s Secretary of State Debra Bowen, Donny Deutsch, among many, many others. A list of topics discussed in previous #140 conferences is displayed on the event page: http://hv.140conf.com/

“You never know who you will meet at a #140conf or how you will affect change in the world. .. Go to a #140conf and be prepared to feel the experience because #140confs are not events, they are experiences”
